Kaveri Seed Company Limited IPO was closed for subscription on September 11, 2007 and was oversubscribed by 4.51 times.

The shares will be listed on the BSE and the NSE. Kaveri Seed IPO will be listed on the next week.

Kaveri Seed Company (formerly known as GVB Rao & Company) is in the business of research, production, processing and marketing of high quality hybrid seeds for crops like corn, sunflower, cotton, pearlmillet, paddy, grain and sorghum.

GVB Rao & Company was started by Mr GV Bhaskar Rao in 1976. This small company started seed production of public varieties of corn, pearl millet and rice. In 1986, GVB Rao & Company became Kaveri Seed Company Private Limited. It diversified in to proprietary hybrid seeds of other crops like sunflower, pearl millet, sorghum and rice. Kaveri has a very strong position in corn and sunflower with hybrids often performing better than the competitors??™ do.

The net proceeds of the issue will be used for acquisition of farmland for R&D near Hyderabad, Alwar and Ahmedabad, setting up marketing offices and godowns in Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Aurangabad, setting up of corn cobdrying plants in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, setting up of a biotechnology lab near Hyderabad, upgradation of existing seed processing plants at Kandalkoi, Gundla Pochampally, Gatla Narsingapur and Bellary, and setting up of a seed processing plant near Hyderabad.
